The STS Conference in Graz is the joint Annual Conference of the Science Technology and Society Unit of the Institute of Interactive Systems and Data Science of the Technical University of Graz, the Inter-University Research Centre for Technology, Work and Culture (IFZ) and the Institute for Advanced Studies of Science, Technology and Society (IAS-STS). It is one of the leading conferences in the STS field.

The Blue Engineering Group organised a session on the topic of “Engineering education and STS: courses and teaching/learning units on the social and ecological responsibility of engineers”. The session was well received by the audience and offered. The session was organised within the track on “Teaching STS” as this seen as an important part of academic life. STS graduates are not only needed in academia, but also in the policy domain, public services and administration as well as in the private sector. STS has also a long tradition in teaching engineers. In this way, teaching became conceived as an opportunity way to engage with the shaping of technology. By making engineering students reflexive about their occupation, teaching is framed as an instrument of enhancing responsibility in research and innovation.
